Thirty Paintings in 30 Days - Day 30

The Final Day

Two by Two - Sailboats
Original Oil on Canvas
4x4" - $89.95

Well, hope you all enjoyed the past 30 days and all my Maine Art....it's been really fun for me!
It's been great changing up my medium from watercolor to oils to inks....kept it challenging for me.

I keep wondering if I could do a painting a day for a year. Guess only time will tell.
I'm sure Jan-Feb would be fine since I'll be armpit deep in snow according to the Farmer's Almanac.

It's the summer months that would be tough!
Well food for thought - if anyone is willing to join me....let me know!

Until next post......happy painting!

 Crazy little lobster!

I opted for a little fun today with my painting.  It's another small 2x3"

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days - Day 27

Original Alcohol Ink on Yupo Paper
8x10 Mat - $125.95

I absolutely love the green...not your typical blue water and sky with inks.
I use a pouring technique for the background then wait for that to dry. The next step is to use a dryer ink, one that has been poured into a paint palette and sits for about 3-4 minutes. Once the ink has thickened a bit the details of the trees and rocks are painted in with a small fine tip paint brush. I go back and layer them letting each section dry first.

Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday - thanks for taking the time to stop by!

SOLD Thirty Paintings in 30 Days - Day 25

 "Puffin"
Original Watercolor/Gouache/Ink
Update: SOLD
These adorable little birds are gone for the season!

Here is some great information I found on the Maine Birding Trail website.

MAINE BIRDING TRAIL website:

"Atlantic Puffins come ashore to breed in late April and begin returning to the sea in August. Some linger into September, but the fruitful season for visitation is only about a dozen weeks long. Tours begin at the end of May and usually finish for the season in mid August.

Puffins are truly pelagic. When fledged, young puffins will not return to land until they are mature enough to breed about five years later. Once they leave their islands, all the puffins disperse across the ocean and are seldom seen, even from boats. Puffins are rarely seen from the mainland.

A century ago, puffins were nearly eliminated from the state as the colorful birds were prized for their feathers and their eggs were gathered for the dinner table. In 1973, the Puffin Project was established in an attempt to bring them back to their historical range. Although the project has been a resounding success, major threats still remain.

Open air dumps in the 1900s caused an overpopulation of gulls, which competed for space on nesting islands and they often preyed upon puffin chicks. Gulls remain a significant obstacle. Food resources are also in great peril. Overfishing and the elimination of spawning habitat has greatly diminished herring and other small fish species relied upon by the puffins."

Sold - Thirty Paintings in 30 Days - Day 24

Hard to believe there is less than a week left in this challenge!
This is the 4th challenge I've completed with Artist Leslie Saeta and I have to say that although it definitely is a challenge it's not the painting I find challenging, but the blogging! I am a women of few words, well for the most part (my hubby may disagree with this statement).

 Portland Headlight Lighthouse, Maine
Original Watercolor
4x6 Mat - $55.00

SOLD

Since starting my first Challenge - I have learned to paint almost daily! Sometimes I even ponder the thought of starting January 1st of 2015 a 365 day painting challenge....we'll see!

The fact is I really do enjoy my daily paintings, I've learned to paint faster and not be as picky on every single piece. Learning to stop is one of the hardest things to do as an artist.  Can't count how many paintings that have been destroyed after over painting them. Sometimes I take pictures of the progress and look back to see where it all went wrong. It really erks me when the painting looked really good before going back to re-work it. Guess we are forever learning right!

Hope you have a great day - and thanks for stopping by my blog!

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days -Day 17

Just got in my canvas order - I was so excited because they were on back ordered! My plan was to paint 30 small oil paintings for the challenge, but these little buggers didn't want to join in on the plan, so I've been bouncing between Oils, Watercolor and inks.

I do enjoy a little change up!
These are so cute and are the perfect travel piece for the JetPort! They should be dry and ready for the Holiday season! The size is 4x4 with a deep canvas edge.

Shot before I added the sailboat.

Thirty Paintings in 30 Days - Day 12

"Harvest Moon"
Alcohol Ink Painting
8x10 Mat - $65

Did any of you see the Harvest Moon the other night? I was teaching a watercolor Paint Night Class at the Sea Dog Brewery in Topsham Maine and the moon was shining directly into the window over looking the river. The reflection was incredible!

For this painting I used Snowcap then added the blue on top to give it that overcast effect.

I'm in the process of hanging my work at Gallery 11

Tonight I'm looking forward to the Art Walk in Brunswick, Maine.
If you are local, stop in at Gallery 11 at Pleasant to view my work and a number of incredible photographers and artists, including my friend Debby Stubbs.
