Painting Retreat with the Autism Support Center - Northeast Arc at Kendall Tavern Inn, Freeport Maine

I was honored to be able to paint with this wonderful group of women from Autism Support Center a Program of the Northeast Arc during their weekend retreat at the beautiful Kendall Tavern Inn in Freeport Maine over the weekend.

Since 1991 the Northeast Arc's Autism Support Center has been empowering families who have a member with autism or a related disorder by providing current, accurate, and unbiased information about autism, services, referrals, resources and research trends.

A much deserved retreat for this wonderful group, I am certainly looking forward to the next one!

A snippet of my Alcohol Ink tile process

Okay, I'll admit it this is not a great video, but I was too cold (or maybe the right word is LAZY) to run outside to my storage area to grab my tripod for the camera! It's only a little piece of the full video - I'm working on a better App to use with my Ipad. The whole video couldn't be sent via my email because it was too long. If any of you have some that you know works well, please...please..feel free to share with us!

But anyways here's a little snippet of my ink process.

And this is my final product!

How long does it take you to paint at Custom Pet Portrait?

One of my favorite subjects to paint are pet portraits. This is a commission painting I just finished of Mason, he's a beautiful looking husky don't you think!

It's always interesting when I just start out how much the paintings change during the whole detailing process, I've shared some steps during my painting process below.

People always ask me how long does it take to paint a pet and you know, it really varies. I spend an absorbament amount of time on the details once the basic shape is in. I start and stop on a painting throughout the day, but find that once I'm "INTO" the painting it's hard for me to NOT keep working for hours on end until I'm happy with a section.

That being said....I've learned along the way that when you are frustrated with a section or piece of your painting, it's best to walk away. Many times after I let my eyes and mind rest, I come back and spot that one little problem area right away.

Sometimes it will take me weeks to complete a painting and other times things just go smoothly and I'll accomplish it in days.  Each painting varies and in some cases what I think will be easy...turns out to be harder than expected.

So I guess to answer the question - How long does it take me? Well the answer is...I never know. Because like every person and pet - each painting is different and takes on a life of it's own.

Gearing up for Sales at The Portland International Jetport!

I've been the crazy lighthouse painter lately because I'm gearing up for the tourist season at the Portland International Jetport! I'll be there at least once a week during the summer season for Art Exhibit's! Just got my new sign in too, I 'll take a picture once it comes in!

The family and I are planning on taking some trips this summer to see a few of Maine's 57 active lighthouses. I'll be taking lots of inspirational pictures as well as doing some plein air painting while I'm there.

Update: SOLD
I was amazed to find out how many lighthouse's we have here just in Maine! A few that are on my "SEE" list are Portland Headlight, Marshal Point, Curtis Island, and Owls Head...just to name a few.
