Daily Painting #37 - Northern Lights Watercolor

   "Northern Lights"

  5 x 7 Watercolor/Gouache on 140 Arches Cold Press

It's Daily Painting #37 for this year! So hard to believe I've accomplished that many so far and it's only February 27th. Let's hope I can stay motivated and continue the trend!

It's a long haul from my 30 day challenge were I completed a  painting a day, but at least I am painting each day! I've been working on a few bigger pieces that you may have seen if you follow me on the Kellie Lynn Art Facebook Page

Today's continuing work is of a leaf in the water. When I was first sent the picture from Valerie (thank you), I thought how pretty it was. Valerie sent it to me via email thinking that I may be interested in painting it...and I was like - OH YAY! Now, um....not so much! It's a lot of frig-in details!

That being said, it is a really good challenge for me. My eyes are going a bit crossed, but I think the end result will be beautiful. Stop over to check it out if you have the chance!

Happy Painting

"SKY DANCE" Newest Mood Painting ~ Colorful Abstract

  "Northern Lights"

  *8 x 10" Watercolor/Gouache

Playing with my abstract side again today. What do you think... too crazy? I paint what I feel and you just never know with me. Reminded some of my clients of the Northern Lights when I posted it on my  Kellie Lynn Art Facebook Page.

Speaking of facebook, I got some great ideas for names when I posted the picture of it and decided on one of my favorites by Michele called SKY DANCE! She said "Looks like energy from land is dancing up to the sky and twirling away." Of course my favorite part about this piece would have to be the sky, it has a endless possibilities.

"Magical Place" Birch Trees A Favorite Subject

  "Magical Place"

22 x 15" Watercolor/Gouache

Birch trees are one of my favorite subjects to paint. I wanted to feel the magic of the sunshine and the joyful happiness that the Maine forest brings to my heart.  It's so peaceful here in the woods and I hope it gives you that same feeling when you look at it.

Change of mood here and I hate to be negative but thought I would share my thoughts with you on this .....On a crappy note, I used a masque called Fineline and I was not happy with this brand at all. It seemed very, VERY hard to remove.

If you can picture it...I was sitting at my studio table for like hours...my poor little fingers were almost raw because I couldn't use my eraser without leaving most of it behind on my paper! My new eraser works great to remove pencil but this one did not take off the masque.

Note to self...buy a new bottle but pick a different brand.

In the end though, I was super happy with the way the painting turned out. It's another larger piece for me. Since the January 30 day challenge that Leslie Saeta put on...I am working my way up from my comfort zone of smaller 5x7 and 8x10 works.

"Sand Dollars" Daily Painting #34 2013 -SOLD

"SAND DOLLARS"
SOLD

Here we are in the middle of February and I'm currently on Daily Painting # 34 for the year!

Must be all the snow lately but I've been thinking of the warm days of summer, and I'm ready for it. Really, just another reason to love Maine, the four seasons! When you are ready for a change....all you have to do is wait a couple months and it's all brand new.

Hard to say what my favorite season really is. In the spring it's the fresh smell of the earth and the excitement of new flowers and trees budding.

In the summer, it's the warm breeze off the coast, the sandy beaches, collecting sand dollars and sun kissed faces.

Fall, well how can you not love the gorgeous colors of the autumn leaves and the morning chill, pumpkins, and apple picking!

But here we are in the winter...snuggled up in our homes hibernating with home made soups and the warm fireplace watching the snow covering the earth like sparkling diamonds.

I guess I just can't pick one. What's your favorite?

Happy Painting,
~Kellie

YMCA Auburn Maine Kids Painting Class

CREATIVITY

A special thank you to  Pam and the YMCA in Auburn Maine for inviting me back for a second watercolor workshop with the kids.

I have to say that I love teaching the kids...they always have the best questions and are so eager.... making the process of creativity so much fun! I created a special cupcake painting scene for them. Valentines Day is tomorrow so it was a perfect fit!

Pam made some real home made mini cupcakes that sat on the tables as the MODEL for the kids to paint from, and BONUS.... she had some ready for them to eat afterwards!

SUPER JOB Kiddo's!! Hope to see you again real soon. ~ Kellie

Watch My New Video - Daily Painting - "Through The Blizzard"

  "Through The Blizzard"

11x14 Watercolor/Gouache

I think I may try this Abstract Mood Painting style as a daily warm up each day....it's a nice way to work with the colors and see what I'm feeling for the day and best of all (think I said this yesterday) it's my FAVORITE type of painting.

We've had a lot of snow lately - well, the biggest Blizzard ("NEMO") on record actually! This one reminds me of what snow would look like in color!

Oh, and I just added a cool link to my Kellie Lynn Art Channel on the blog (see it over on the right hand side of the page?)!!

"STARBURST" 11x14 Watercolor Abstract

 "STARBURST"

11x14 Watercolor/Gouache

How does this make you feel? What mood are you in today? Funny what colors will do to a person's thought process don't you think?

I love playing with colors and abstracts, as a matter of fact here is a little secret, you wouldn't know it, but they are my favorites to paint! They come from my soul and express sometimes what I have a hard time writing in words.

Snowing still and I'm painting "Purity" - A White Iris

 "PURITY"

White Iris

8x10 Watercolor/Gouache

These beautiful flowers must be blooming somewhere right now...but it's not in Maine that's for sure! It's snowing....still, surprise surprise...NEMO hasn't really began to rev up yet and it looks like most of the heavier snow will hit sometime tonight and into tomorrow morning - like 3" an hour!

I've been watching the snow this afternoon out my window and been doing a little light painting. Got a late start today so decided to keep it simple.

Thanks for stopping by ~ Stay safe and warm!

Cluttered Studio = Cluttered Mind

I want to thank everyone for hanging out reading my blog! The traffic here since the 30 day painting challenge has been A-mazing.

Although I still try to paint everyday ~ I've slowed down a bit. Spring fever has hit me over the head like a ton of bricks and it's been clean up time for me. Peaked into one of my closets and so it began....started going through them trying to minimize our life. Kinda LOVE tossing things we haven't used in a while, it's very therapeutic and get the house so tidy!

Crazy all the "things" we collect over the coarse of a year isn't it? My plan this year...for each item I bring into the house, two or more must go out. I find that clutter messes up my head with all sorts of "things" to do and take care of. If my studio is a mess or the house is a mess, I can't think straight....every time I get up I lose focus and it takes time for me to get back into my work!

We are getting a big BLIZZARD here in Maine today ~ so you may not hear from me tomorrow, we'll see if we get the 26" +?

Stay safe and warm my friends!

Deco Dragonfly was painted with a mixture of iridescent paints added to my watercolors.
I loved the composition on this one....bug closeups who knew.

Today's Project 8x10 PIG

Masked and starting painting.....

First layers finished...

Second layers finished....

I'm not completely finished with the big guy but it would appear that I'm done for today.
We'll see if I jump to something new tomorrow.  Sometimes it's best to sit on a painting and let me tell you....that after this past 30 days of painting straight completions, I'm absolutely okay with waiting.

I have this beautiful horse just staring at me...waiting for her turn on the paper. I'm hoping to get my art order in tomorrow. If you can believe it, I'm out of Arches Watercolor paper!
