"Getting Ready" Fall before Winter 30 in 30 Day 30

It's here...the last day of the painting challenge (clapping) Phew!

We headed out this weekend to take some pictures of the changing season,  but it hasn't quite hit where we are yet. A few trees here and there, but I know it's coming fast and I'm getting ready to hunker down for the cold winter months. It's always a great time to paint!

This Maine painting is so crisp looking and although the colors are warm fall colors I think you can feel the coolness in the air. Hope you enjoyed my daily paintings and continue to see what I come up with next week, because I promise to put out a painting a week for the rest of the year!

See  a painting you like and the original has been sold, please let me know and I'll be happy to add it as a print!

"A IS FOR APPLE" Ricker Hill Orchard 30 in 30 Day 29

We went out on a road trip this morning to take some pictures of the fall leaves but ended up at Ricker Hill Orchards! So happy we did...because while I was out taking pictures of the goats and pumpkins Larry was inside the bake shop picking up fresh apple doughnuts and a pumpkin chocolate chip whoopie pie! And OH MY GOD - was it GOOD!

After we got home it was time for the football game - so at 4pm I threw in my laundry (first wash of the week - YIKES) and started looking through my pictures.

Have some amazing shots, but figured they are really too difficult in my short amount of paint time today (the Patriots are on at 8:30) so I simplified down to just one apple. It' rather amazing how simple an apple looks to paint isn't it?....but they are NOT!

"Got My Boots On" 30 in 30 Day 28

GOT MY BOOTS ON
5x7 Watercolor
Private Collection

We are winding down on the 30 day challenge! It's been one heck of a ride.

I don't normally paint people but figured since this is a challenge I'd give it the good ol try!
Portraits and buildings are my nemesis, but I love a challenge. So here is "GOT MY BOOTS ON".

Remember as a child how much you loved to splash around in the mud puddles after the rain? This little guy has his little blue rain boots on and is having the time of his life!

Always remember, it's sometimes the simple things in life that make it all worth while. So go play, and make a splash for yourself today!

"Here's Looking At You" Swallowtail Catapillar 30 In 30 Day 27

Have you ever seen such a thing?
What am I looking at  you may say?

Looks like it's staring right back at you doesn't it? That's not a eye though....it's actually the back end of a Swallowtail caterpillar!

 "Here's Looking At You"

8x10 Framed - $100

A photograph friend took a funny little picture this summer of a swallowtail caterpillar, not knowing what it was at the time. She was showing me her photos on Monday and this one jumped right out! It was one of the funniest little insect/bug/creatures I have ever seen!

It may be a strange choice of subject matter for a watercolor - but he just "cracked" me up. I mean really....that's an eye! Bet the birds think twice with this kind of back end!

Special thanks to Michele Wood for the photo reference.

"Dancing Leaves" Fall Watercolor Painting 30 in 30 Day 24

"DANCING LEAVES"

Framed 8x10
Had fun with a little more abstract style today.

I think it's a good thing the 30 day challenge is winding down, I'm running out of steam!

Just got back from a brisk walk outside with little puppy, Primm and thought she was going to blow away. The wind is whipping those little leaves all over the place out there. Looks like Fall is officially here as of 4:44 yesterday.

This is a colorful little 5x7 fall watercolor painting.

On another note:  I'm excited to have an artist wine and cheese reception this Friday night from 4-5pm at the Highlands in Topsham and then the Arts 10x10 event from 5-8 the same evening!

Luna Moth Antique Door/ Flowers Day 22 and Day 23

"Purple Haze"

$75
(8x10 Double White Mat)

I'm covering 2 days worth of paintings over the weekend because, well ...it's football season (don't judge me)...but I just don't see myself painting on Sundays! :)

Go Giants! (Sorry New England fans..but The Pats are my second choice)
It's my dads fault. Wink Wink. Oh and I married a man who's favorite team is...pause....
THE GIANTS!

"Antique Door Stop"

$85

I did two different versions of the Luna Moth. The first one was on a bunch of purple flowers...eventually that is. I wasn't happy with the background at first so I played with it.

Then a client suggested he saw one on an antique door....so I attempted it a second time.
I shall taunt you a second time (Monty Python), sorry it just reminded me of that. Anyways, I happy with both of them now.

Special thanks for the recommendation Douglas! I love receiving ideas from my facebook followers on Kellie Lynn Art Facebook page!

I have lived in Maine most of my life and enjoy the everyday coastal scene's. This painting of Reid State park is just before the snow flies. The air is crisp and the wind is blowing like crazy. The sky was very overcast but you can see the suns rays peaking through the clouds.

"Heavenly" Monarch Butterfly 30 in 30 Day 19

"Heavenly" Monarch Butterfly
4x6" Original Watercolor

$85
Mat/Frame not included
It's my son's birthday today - he is a big twelve years old! I'm not really sure where the time has gone, but it certainly moves fast. We are very blessed to have such a wonderful kid, he's smart, adorable, and has a kind heart.
The Monarch Butterfly is very symbolic to our family and I've been waiting to paint this one, and I think it's one of my favorites during the 30 day challenge so far.  Love the light and airy feel the blue gives, it makes me think of Heaven.

"Ferris Wheel Fair Night" 30 in 30 Day 18

 "Ferris Wheel Fair Night"
$100 FRAMED
8x10

The Maine Fair Grounds in the evening. Lights, Horse racing, sounds, cotton candy, candy apples, and all those fun rides! I can remember walking around for hours at the Northern Maine fair in Presque Isle as a young girl.

Had my first job at the cotton candy booth way back! I can remember dreaming that night of stuffing the bags full over and over again. Oh, and the candy machine would spit out hot sugar on our arms...stung like little bees.

I love it a relative of mine (Janet) saw the picture and said:

"The ferris wheel is kind of the "crown jewel" of any carnival or fair...magic. It doesn't seem to matter what else there are for rides, it still is the one ride that seems to say, "Fun & Excitement"...you captured its glamor against the night sky. Great job!"   Awe..thanks Janet!

Also a special thanks to my friend Lynn for recommending I paint it!

"Single Lady" 30 in 30 Day 17

"Single Lady"

 $100
5x7 Painting size Framed to an 8x10

All the single ladies.....all the single ladies....put your hands up.....singing along aren't you? (Beyonce)

I was out of brain juice last night and asked my friend Arica what I should call it...and she suggested Single Lady. We were typing back and forth on facebook and of course I started humming the tune in my head...now it won't leave. Ever have that happen to you?

My husband and I do it all the time. He'll leave for work in the morning and I'll find myself humming Delta Dawn what's that flower you have on. In my head "LARRY" ugh!!! You did it to me again!

So hope you don't it get stuck "If you like it then you otta put a ring on it"...today. :) Yeah...Sorry.

"Hanging Out" 30 in 30 Day 16

Missing my birds at my new house, although we put up a bird feeder,  my guess is that it's too low for the birds to feel comfortable feeding at, so I haven't had any (sad face).  Note to self....must put a tall post on my list for this weeks buys.

Started this painting a while ago but wasn't happy with it, so it got tossed to the side.  Decided to pull it back out and work on the background  some more (it was very dull). I punched up the color a bit with some fall leaves, there...much better.
"HANGING OUT"

Think I have the Monday blahs, maybe it's because it's raining outside again....guess I'll have to put on my big girl pants and get painting,  maybe I can get a few done ahead of time for this week. Finding the painting is the easy part of this challenge...it's the picture taking, blogging, posting on facebook, twitter, etsy, society6, ebay, ...all the heavy work! :)

My first cup of java is complete after finishing the blog post....so Monday blahs are already lifting! Make it a great day!

"Sugared Grapes" 30 in 30 Day 15

 "Sugared Grapes"
 $100

A beautiful abstract rendition of grapes.

Today is the half way point in our 30 day challenge and I feel like I cheated a little bit painting grapes again, but it got stuck in my head and had to try it with some purple.

I think it turned out better than the first one! I loved playing with the colors and flow of the background. Forcing myself to stretch out of my box with more color and a looser feel. I used a bit of white gouache on this painting too.

"Friendly Harvest" 30 in 30 Day 14

Had so much fun yesterday painting with my fellow artist and friend Arica Pillsbury!
It so much fun to sit, chat, and paint with another wonderful artist.

Since the weather didn't go as we had planned, Arica brilliantly came up with a plan B to paint at Longfellows Greenhouse in Manchester Maine. They were super nice when she asked if they minded if we set up outside under the awning to paint plein air.

Our Models - very pretty aren't they!

Here is my finished piece above and below is Arica's!

Please visit Arica's Art Blog HERE

Find it amazing how we can both paint the same subjects with such different styles.  Love it!
Thanks for a wonderful day and all the inspiration my friend!

"End Of Summer" 30 in 30 Day 13

I've been painting a number of great fall colors but as excited I am for the fall I realized that summer is coming to an end. It's sad, yet exciting at the same time.  Coastal Maine's summer has been either very hot and muggy or rainy this year, but really can't complain, since there were of course a number of Perfect with a capital P - days in between, especially here on the coast.

I kept thinking maybe it needs a boat in that ocean somewhere?
This painting started with darker shades of wet on wet but after a number of water downs....it developed.

Really like the way the sky and reflections turned out, but maybe the trees are a bit to dark for the light and airy sky. It's trial and error isn't it.

May try a similar style tomorrow, but with purples...you know how I LOVE purples!
Sorry,  didn't get pictures of the process because I was having to much fun playing with the squirt bottle, oh yeah I had water everywhere.

Really excited today...I'm meeting up with an artist friend of mine (first time in person) but we've been chatting like no tomorrow online! Going to do some plein air painting together.

Have a super day everyone!

"Feeling Fall" 30 in 30 Day 12

"FEELING FALL"

Price:  $60
5x7 Original
 (8x10 Mat included)

It was freezing in my house this morning and we refuse to turn on our heat in September!
Okay, freezing may be a little over-board, it was 68 degrees but I'm a  big old Cold Wimp. Not sure how I live in Maine during the winters, I mean...REALLY? ..but I love it!

Since my fingers were cold I decided not to do details again today but to be free and fall-ish!
A take off from the "Autumn Lake", but without the Lake :)

Leaf peeping in Maine will soon be here!

"Hummingbird" 30 in 30 Day 11 - by Kellie Chasse

It was so amazing to see all the hummingbirds at Jo-Mary Lake during this summer and last. A number of seasonal folks had their little sugar/water containers up and running! Since we only came up on the weekends, and sadly not many this year, I didn't hang a feeder, but our cousins site was very enjoyable! I counted over 9 birds at their feeder one time!

"Hummingbird"

Hummingbirds are amazing little creatures. They are one of my favorite birds to watch. A few years back I started putting up window boxes with red impatient flowers in them....and was super excited to find these lovely creatures stopping by for a little morning breakfast!  I would jump up to try to grab my camera every time I heard the little humming sound at my open window, but had the hardest time capturing the little buggers! They don't stick around for long.

Progress Steps

I started loose and then messed it all up in the second step, ugh... so I ended up doing a lot of details.

Hope you enjoy and would love to have you follow me either on my blog, facebook, twitter...the list goes on. If you have time, please check out my many LINKS below!

"Make A Wish" 30 in 30 Day 10 - by Kellie Chasse

Sometimes little pictures will catch your eyes while zombie -ing  along on facebook in a daze!
This one stopped me mid-scroll, and I had to ask if I could paint it!

I have a handy dandy little folder on my computer that I've labeled "INSPIRATIONS" that I tuck all my favorite photos in and they stay there until the inspiration hits me.

"Make A Wish" Framed Original

A client of mine who follows me on my Kellie Lynn Art Facebook page posted this adorable picture of someone holding a dandelion flower, and it just spoke LOVE, LIFE, and HAPPINESS to me!
