"Emerge"

"Emerge"
Alcohol Ink on Mineral Paper
Size: 9x12"

I am so excited to share that I just received confirmation that I have been chosen to SOLO Exhibit my work for the entire summer at The Footlights Theatre in Falmouth, Maine!
Special thanks to my dear friend and artist Bonnie for sending me the information. <3 font="">

Here's my note I just received:

"Hello Kellie- Congratulations!

Well, with over 30 entries for consideration, we would love to have you "take over" the entire theatre lobby with your fabulous art work. When is the earliest you could hang your work? We have a show coming in on the 2nd of June for that weekend, then we resume our current show thru the 15th of June, followed by the opening of our summer show on the 27th of June thru August 31st. Plus we have a multitude of events throughout the summer."

I'll be making a visit there next week to see the space and get things going. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to before I set up, so I've been painting all weekend long.  Just when you feel that you have enough art!

So I"m calling this one "emerged", as I have emerged from the Maine's winter snow and ice into spring! The trees are blooming, the birds are singing, and my bird feeder is full with many new visitor.  Let the painting and preparations begin!
Since they would like colors - as it is a theater, I"m opening up my abstract side. I'll be showing some of my newest resin pieces as well as the alcohol Inks. I'll be ordering the Larger Art Resin today in hopes to get it soon as I'll be using up my new gallon jug!

I will be scheduling an Artist reception soon and I'm looking forward to seeing so many folks that have been in hibernation. We are like little bears here in Maine.

For the painting above I used a white gel pen and an air compressor. You can find out more information about the compressor on my past blog post

Peacock Feathers New Quick Demo Video

I believe EVERYONE should try Alcohol Inks at least once in there lives, so I really enjoy sharing as much FREE content as I can for you! Really wish I could afford to give it all away, but ....well let's be honest, I wouldn't have enough to keep creating all of these videos and those supplies have to be purchased somewhere (why can't those be FREE ;)  So I really appreciate all of your fantastic comments, support, and Likes - they keep me going! I want you to know that I try to read everyone of them.

PRINTS AVAILABLE HERE

I created the Peacock painting above in early 2014, and it's still one of my personal favorites from my alcohol ink collection. The original sold right away, but I did remember to make prints of it before I shipped it out. I'm  honored to say it's one of my top selling prints and top Pinned posts from my Pinterest page, along with Mr. Blue Lobster

So today I thought I would show you how I created a little piece of the background (little feather circles). The original painting is more organic looking and I love the randomness of the circles, but I'll show you how to control them a bit more in the video ----> Link Below

If you haven't tried one of my online Alcohol Ink Course's you can find a Material List Video for my classes as well as I've added some online links below for you.

First I started with a wet background using Cloudy Blue and added the Lake Mist with a small detail brush. I created some feathery lines for the first layer then let that dry.

Then added a drop of Citrus and tilted my paper to spread out the inks, then added a drop of eggplant, and finally a drop of Pool Blue.

Watch it below or If you click on this link ----->  Peacock Feathers Quick Demo Video  it will take you to my You Tube Channel which has now 60 videos! (Make sure click the Red "Subscribe" Button to see more videos in the works!) It would be great if you would click that little thumbs up LIKE Button or Share the video!

"Powerful" - Alcohol Ink on Yupo 9x12"

"Powerful"
Alcohol Ink on Mineral Paper - $125

Free Shipping USA

Still working with the new Alcohol Ink blending solution that I created. I love how it really softens the edges of the paintings. What do you see....clouds....waves....other?

The colors in this one are Twilight, Cool Peri, and Snowcap.

Here is a time lapse video of  "Femininity"

Both pieces of work where done on Mineral Paper, which is made from Rocks.
It's a light weight paper compared to Yupo, but it's more cost effect.  Some folks may be interested in the  Air Brush that I"m using - there is a separate Video HERE and here is the link where I purchased mine:  Masters Air Brush

Painting A Pet Portrait in Watercolors and Gouache - Husky Dog

"Mason"
Husky Dog
Commission Pet Portrait
10x10" Watercolor/Gouache

I have completed a number of Pet portraits, but these blue eyes are one of my favorites.

Here's a little glimpse of my progress along the way.
I start with the eye's and nose, and then light washes around the fur and ears. Once those are dry I build upon those washes and darken them. The final touches are the layers and layers with a fine brush detailing in all the fur.

One of my go to supplies while painting is the OttLite with the little magnify glass, it gives of great natural lighting and I can see all the little fur strokes on my pet portraits, although I do use this light for all my paintings! I'll post a link for the light down below for you.

For "Mason" the husky I only used 2 brushes. A number 1 Arists water colour sable rigger brush by Winsor and Newton and a fine liner brush.

Below is the original reference photograph of Mason that the client emailed to me.
He's a beautiful Husky don't you think!

Here is the link for the OttLite

Back to my Creative Emotional Side - "Strength"

"Strength"
Alcohol Ink on Mineral Paper
Size: 9x12"

Having so much fun with my home made blending solution!

Funny when I was younger I felt as though I needed to PROVE that I was a "REAL" artist by showing that I could draw or paint something more realistic. But now that I'm older and wiser (wink wink) I realize how silly I was being - Art is Art! You will have those that will follow your work, because first of all you like it and secondly - they like it. You will not please everyone and your art will not please everyone.

My true passion has always been more abstract. I often bounce back and forth, and because a number of my clients love Seascapes, landscapes and pet portraits, I still do it all. But whenever I feel the need to paint for myself, I tend to revert back to my creative emotional side and express my inner self.

Life is too short not to do what you love. So here's a tip from a fellow artist....do what you love and be who you are.

If you are interested in learning more about Alcohol Inks I would love to have you join me for an simple beginner online course. I am also one of the Founding Contributors of The Alcohol Ink Art Community. The community is a wonderful place to learn, create, and promote your AI Art and I recommend you check out becoming a member

I've posted the referral links before for those of you that are interested in Mineral Paper in place of Yupo. It's made from Rocks and still has that glossy surface like Yupo but is a bit thinner and much less expensive! When you spray to seal it just know that it will tend to buckle but it will flatten back out once it's dry and has been taped down when matted or framed.

My Mother's Day Gift - Plein Air Easel

Last Mother's Day my hubby purchased an easel for my plein air trips - I love it! I find it easy to set up on site, and it's fairly lightweight but sturdy. Oh and I picked up a clip on umbrella to go with it, I'll post the links for you below.

I started off setting it up in my backyard to test the whole thing out and surprisingly it went very smoothly! The little clip was helpful for keeping the canvas in place, but I did have to touch up the area when I was finished.

Now I use it all the time on location, here's a photo of me at Simpson Point out in Brunswick Maine with my Mother last fall.  I'm excited because it's just about time we headed back out again as the weather is going to be in the 70's this week, can't wait!

I even use the easel for my Acrylic Paint Night events.  They have another one for Watercolor with a little kit to change them out from oil to watercolor. I've found that I use my oil one for all of them, and just bring a watercolor pallet and water instead of the oil jar. Easy!

Here are the Referral Links for the Easel and Umbrella Kit, if you want to check them out!

Decisions on abstracts - Which way is UP?

Option 1

"Birth of Spring" - $125
Artist Kellie Chasse
Alcohol Ink On Yupo Paper - 9x12"

Leaf trying to push the last of the beautiful colorful bud from the flower to emerge full and strong.

Always the hard part with abstract paintings, which way is up? Tell us your ideas on this. I've numbered the options for you to choose, just leave a comment below with your ideas.

As an artist do you make the decision on your contemporary art or let your client? Do you sign yours?

Option 2 - These are all from the same painting. I love the gold in here but also the softness around the edges and the contrast between the two.

Or as a art collector would you prefer to not have the artist sign the work on the front so you can choose to display it the way you see it?

Option 3 - Some pieces are cropped and can easily be matted to a smaller 8x10" Frame.

To create this painting I used the Masters Airbrush again along with the Watercolor Pens filled with my own home made Alcohol Ink blending solution

New Acrylic Painting Scene Available - "Busy Bee"

Busy Bee

At the end of April we had an amazing turn out of 44 painters for the Kora Fundraiser and we have another function coming up next week for the Lodge in Minot Maine.

Here's the newest painting scene I've created for them. They'll choose their own color of flower they want to do. We'll be adding this one as a scene for our future group choices so if you are interested in holding a Company Team Building Event or Fundraiser and live in Midcoast Maine please send me a note!

This painting is done with Acrylics on a 16x20" canvas (Affiliate Link) with a 1" gallery wrap.
I"m working on a pineapple next and if you have some ideas you would like to see, please share them with me!

In the mean time - happy painting!

"Femininity" - Creating your own Alcohol Ink Blending Solution

"Femininity"  $125 - Free Shipping

Original Painting 9x12" Alcohol Ink on Mineral Paper

PayPal.Me/KellieChasse/125

It's been raining here for what seems like weeks. April showers bring May flowers right. So today I really wanted to just play with colors and evoke some emotions with less stress about lines or steps.
I love the movement in this one and since Mothers Day is coming right up, I named this one "Femininity".

What started this whole painting.....I've been excited to make my own Blending solution with Glycerin and 91% alcohol. My first attempt didn't make the grade because the glycerin would leave this funny moisture looking spots on my painting. I did some research and it appeared I had been using too much glycerin to Alcohol ratio.

So this time I started small. I filled my new (watercolor)  Water coloring Brush Pens completely with 91% Isopropy Alcohol and then added just one drop of the glycerin. I"m using a food grade (USP Food Grade Glycerine) and shook it to mix well. It worked perfectly! It really blends the colors...you can see where I used the brush on the edges for that softness. I will be adding a Short Demo Video on my Youtube Channel.

I hope to create a new online Class for something similar with all the steps in the near future.
In the mean time you can view my 17 (Watercolor, Alcohol Ink, and a few Resin and Jewelry) Online Courses on my website: www.kelliechassefineart.com

Original Ref Photo - by Shelby Crouse

Started out with a light sketch from the original photograph above.

I am using Winsor and Newton Water Mixable Oil Paints, and I love them. They dry a lot faster than traditional Oils and they clean up with water when wet.
I added the sky first, then blocked in the water and the island.

The filled in the Rock section below.

Then came all the details - the light wasn't as bright here, so I snapped a photo
of the finished piece under the light.

The Finished Piece - so much brighter!
