Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

2017 has been full and a crazy exciting year!

Funny, when you look back at your year you realize all the accomplishments and goals that you met AND.... all of those that you have to add to your to do list for the next.

While I sit here with my glass of BOXED WINE,  (psst...I drank the good stuff on Wednesday as you may have seen on my instagram post) I ponder and take this moment to reflect.

I want to say how thankful I am for all of you that follow me and my passion and for the many of you that have taken my courses online, and locally. I am thankful for all of you that decided to purchase my prints and original art this year and for supporting my small business.

Many of you know that our family is completely debt free and we own our own home without a mortgage. We struggled and went without new cars, going out to dinner much or taking big vacations for a number of years to get here, but it was so worth it. The stress has melted away and my art has become my main source of income and now I can enjoy the creative process with out any worries.

I managed to reach my goal creating 12 courses this year, and it makes me so happy to see and hear that many of you are being creative and enjoying them!

Next year my focus will be on creating more courses, posting more tutorials on my Youtube Channel, and connecting with others and building a page that offers more creative ideas and items for you on my Facebook and Instagram page.

I know that TIME is the most important thing, along with my Family & Friends. They are what make my world go round. So, I"ll be giving them lots of hugs and taking time to enjoy them over the next few days and I hope you are able to enjoy yours!  BIG hugs to those that are missing someone this year.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,
From my family to yours....we are wishing you all a Happy, Healthy, and Creative New Year.

Alcohol Ink and Resin Jewelry - Violet Flower Bracelet

I had a request for a commission pair of earrings from a client. This was a gift and the person loves flowers, especially anything purple, and they really wanted a violet or pansy.
I video taped most of my process not on the earrings but on the single bracelet. You can watch it on my Youtube Channel. I'll be posting a link to the video below.

I am always up for the challenge and once I got started it was fun to expand on the original plan.
It took a few tries to get the shape down with the resin and get a feel for how the inks would move with and without heat. I worked with Snow Cap Alcohol Ink to start for the base. It's a mixative and I added it to the Clear Art Resin to tint it.

I found these lovely little Adjustable Bracelets online and they had just arrived, so I made a few of these. I'll be posting a few more as the first 2 batches have sold. You will be able to find them in my etsy shop soon.

I also found these cute little charms that I'm thinking on adding to my next batch of bracelet!
They have all kind of little options. This pack of 100 had butterflies, lots of sea themed charms like mermaids, shells, suns, elephants, owls, keys and more.

I also wanted to share the great little starter Jewelry Kit that has a lot of what I needed to start making simple jewelry pieces.

Gifts for Artists - My Top 10 Alcohol Ink or Watercolor Tools and Items

I wanted to share my TOP 10 FAVORITE  tools or items

for Alcohol Ink artists and Watercolor Artists.

Alcohol Ink Artists:

These are perfect for beginners or as extra supplies for the existing AI Artist!

Yupo Paper - These are small pads, great for practice or for smaller paintings. This is a must item for INKERS. The paper has a smooth finish which is what alcohol inks need to create that smooth and flowing magic with the colors!

Ranger Alcohol Ink - Ranger inks have a number of great colors and you can purchase a small kit of 3 colors that work well together to start.

Pinata Ink - Pinata colors are vibrants and come in this super exciter pack along with the much needed white and fantastic gold!

White Gel Pens - Love these to create some small details in your paintings - great for little dots and marks in your paintings and for highlights!

Blender Pen - This is a great little tool to soften colors or take away hard edges where the inks become to dark.

Watercolor Artists

These are perfect for beginner watercolorists or as extra supplies for the existing Artist!

Winsor Newton Cotman Kits  - These watercolor kits have everything you need to get started with watercolors or as a artist that wants to take a little kit on the road with them. It even comes with a little detail brush.

Watercolor Cards - Great for practice (cut them in half for a 5x7" Sheet!) Make sure to paint on the rougher side.

White Mat Kits - Finish off either your Alcohol Ink painting or watercolor painting with these perfect complete mat kits. They even have a clear acid free sleeve to cover and protect your work. They come in other sizes as well.

Art Masking Fluid - Masking fluid is another item that can be used with Alcohol Ink or watercolor. I recommend using a cheap brush to put the fluid on with incase it dries and try dipping your brush into a little dish soap before - which helps clean up your brush after.

White Gouache - White gouache is my friend! If you don't want to clean up the Masking fluid you can use this on top of your watercolor paints as it's more opaque. It re-activates with water and you can use this to make snow with a toothbrush!

Shipping your Resin Art Work - Do not let Bubble Wrap Touch it!

It's the big shipping season and I just did a post about my Print shipping process, I wanted to share with you something I just learned during a recent post on Facebook about shipping your Resin Art work. Big thanks to a fellow facebooker, Terry for saving me from a future disaster as I guess I have been lucky!

I have been storing and shipping my Art Resin pieces with these Foam sheets without problems, but....after posting how I ship my resin art pieces, someone was kind enough to share their experience with  petroleum based shipping products that left their resin art work with a marble imprint when they shipped.

Resin can heat up even after it's cured and when it does anything that is touching it can leave marks, dents, or patterns when shipping (example bubble wrap). Sometimes those marks will go away and sometimes they won't.

So I did a bit of research and found that Glassine Paper is the best for shipping directly against the cured Art resin piece.  Here's a video that Art Resin did last year that may help you decide.

Then you can use a foam sheet and I place a foam backer board on top for added protection and bubble warp that.

Hope this post saves you some heartache!

Jewelry Art TIP - Use Resin (NOT GLUE) to create Less Air Bubbles ( Bezels and Glass Cabochon)

I have heard from a number of students from my online Alcohol Ink Jewelry Course that air bubbles are a problem for them. This is something that can happen when you first start making pendants until you get the hang of it. It's that dreaded....they look great right now then a day later when it's dry you discover those silvery little buggers (you may know exactly what I mean) of air that trapped themselves hidden only to make their great escape 24 hours or so later. It's all about that seal. If you squeeze out too much glue it can suck the air back in or if you don't use enough glue to begin with. There are a number of scenarios that can happen to create these silver spots.

When I first started making pendants I used the glue but I've graduated and wanted to share with you what I now use! I LOVE using Art Resin for my bezel pendants with or with out Glass Cabochons because it has UV protection built in and my clients do not have to worry so much about getting the pendants wet because unlike glue resin is waterproof. Please note that some colors can fade when using resin, so I find it best to seal them first with a few light sprays of Kamar Varnish before I seal them with resin. If you choose to use Art Resin (there are many other 2 part epoxy brands to choose from) but Art resin has UV so you would not need to spray a coat of UV spray after Kamar.

TAG YOUR WORK OR POP OVER TO SAY HELLO - INSTAGRAM and FACEBOOK

I've created a short demo VIDEO of my process on my Youtube channel for you.

There is also a full list of the materials I used there under the comment section. In this video I'll show you how I use Art Resin in place of Glue for an easy more bubbles free approach to creating your own fashionable wearable art or to sell in your own shops or shows!
