Just wanted to share some exciting news about my Mom today!
A few months ago, my mom, Shelby Crouse was approached by Author Barbara Walsh, to illustrate a new children's book about Ginny Oliver, Maine's 102-Year-old Lobster Lady. She is currently heading out each day with her son (who is in his 70s) to haul lobster traps! That is not an easy job.
I am just so proud of my mom's illustrations and hard work, and I knew you would be too. She is the reason that I found my passion for art.
Watch the interview with her and the author below. They made it on our local News Channel Show called 207! You can Watch the Video Here!.
I snapped this photo while watching her finish up the last illustration (page 14) of the book. She is so proud, but this was just before she had to have a big surgery on her neck of all places.

After a restful 4th of July week up to Camp I'm ready to create. I found some lovely Birch Bark during a walk in the Maine woods. The Bark comes from a fallen tree, that I found laying on the ground, so I picked it up in hopes of using it in a piece of Art. I only have a limited quantity of these, they have been selling fast!
I"ve been busy at the Portland Jetport this summer, looks like it's going to be a great summer. Hope you are enjoying yours too!
Here's what I've been up to this week!

If you have been following me on Instagram you may of seen the LOVELY Full jar of original Maine Sea Glass that my Mom so graciously donated to me for my art. She has been collecting this glass for years along the Maine Beaches. Many are from hard to get to places by boat from her years of sailing. My favorite color to work with is the Teals and Blues but unfortunately there isn't a lot of it, so again it will be created in limited quantities. I will be posting them periodically on my Kellie Chasse Fine Art facebook page, so head over there to check out the New Store I'm setting up on there to have a chance to grab one.

I wanted to share with you my newest contemporary piece, unfortunately didn't get to video tape this one, but maybe next time. I'm getting more brave with my resin and slowly working up to a larger canvas, but I decided to try an abstract resin piece on Liquid Art Panel made by Pebeo. I"ll post a referral link down below for you.
What is a Liquid Art Panel? Basically it's a panel that has a lip or a border around it to keep in liquids such as Resin, Liquid Acrylics, or encaustic waxes from pouring out over the edges. This one has a 3/4" wooden boarder that can be painted or stained to match your art. They come in many sizes, this one is an 18x24".
I find them fairly easy to use, but you do need to be careful that your resin or paints (what-ever medium you choose) doesn't over fill the lip or you will have a mess running down the sides. I have used blue painters tape in the past but it was hard to get it over the front lip perfectly, so I found that babysitting it by adding the resin slowly was easier for me than dealing with the tape.
I have used these a few times in the past. Below is a Silvery Moon painting of a tree, it is a smaller panel - 11x14". I would recommend that you start small and work out the kinks before trying a larger panel.
"Silvery Moon" SOLD
The big difference between these two paintings - "Silvery Moon" was painted with Alcohol Inks prior to adding a clear coat of resin, and the larger piece was completed using tinted resin. I do have an Lifetime Beginner Online Resin Course "Zen Disk" (50% Off Sale price Link) on creating an art piece on Aluminum disk, but you always try it on a canvas or one of these liquid panels.
The Finished Piece, is hanging at the Footlights Theatre in Falmouth Maine. It will be displayed there with a number of other Alcohol Ink, Resin, and Oils. The show "Water Reflections" will be hanging over the Summer Months. Here is the (Referral Link) Pebeo Liquid Art Panel They come in many sizes.
