How to Create an Alcohol Ink Abstract FX Casting Resin | Countertop Epoxy

Learn to how to Create a super Cool abstract painting using FX casting Resin by Counter Top Epoxy with Kellie Chasse!
Big thanks to Counter Top Epoxy for sending me all these goodies including all of these yummy metallic powder colors! Since I have never used this brand I was really excited to try it out and see how it works compared to other resins I've used in some Alcohol Ink projects.
So this TUESDAYS VIDEO you can watch my entire creation process of this painting on glass. I started out by taping up the edges of the glass with blue painters tape.  If you try this make sure to tape the underneath of the painting so that the drips will not attach to the underside. This pour was going to be a bit thicker, (1/8" on top of the glass). According to them you can actually go up to 1" pour with this brand. That was very impressive, since other brands recommend up to a 1/8". I think next time I'll try using the Aluminum tape and build up the wall higher on some plexiglass...stay tuned for that one!

Once the sides got taped, I mixed my resin per instructions. Then the fun began! It was great trying almost every material I could. I wanted to see how they each reacted with the resin. I have to say that I was very impressed with FX Casting Resin. The only downfall was having to mix it for another 4 minutes in another container. Other than that it's super hard, shiny, and gorgeous!

Alcohol Ink and Resin Jewelry - Violet Flower Bracelet

I had a request for a commission pair of earrings from a client. This was a gift and the person loves flowers, especially anything purple, and they really wanted a violet or pansy.
I video taped most of my process not on the earrings but on the single bracelet. You can watch it on my Youtube Channel. I'll be posting a link to the video below.

I am always up for the challenge and once I got started it was fun to expand on the original plan.
It took a few tries to get the shape down with the resin and get a feel for how the inks would move with and without heat. I worked with Snow Cap Alcohol Ink to start for the base. It's a mixative and I added it to the Clear Art Resin to tint it.

I found these lovely little Adjustable Bracelets online and they had just arrived, so I made a few of these. I'll be posting a few more as the first 2 batches have sold. You will be able to find them in my etsy shop soon.

I also found these cute little charms that I'm thinking on adding to my next batch of bracelet!
They have all kind of little options. This pack of 100 had butterflies, lots of sea themed charms like mermaids, shells, suns, elephants, owls, keys and more.

I also wanted to share the great little starter Jewelry Kit that has a lot of what I needed to start making simple jewelry pieces.

Artist Tip: Matting and Packaging Art Prints

How I Mat and Package my Art and Prints

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, are you eating leftover pumpkin pie for breakfast like me? It's Black Friday today and since the Holiday Season is now upon us I thought I would share a quick Artist Tip with you!

I remember when I first started to purchase mats for my work I was having them cut by a professional framer and they were like $12+ dollars each time, and this was for the small 8x10" size.

As a simple living, debt free artist I'm always trying to find deals and came across these lovely little Mat Kits. They come in a standard 8x10" or 11x14" Size that will fit your 5x7" or 8x10" Prints.  In the video below I'll cover where I purchase them and how easy it is to package up your prints to mail.

I also found some Gold Autographed copy stickers that I add to the prints that I've personally signed.

Subscribe and Check out the Video below and if you watch it on my Youtube channel you can access all the links for the materials I used in the video:

Deco Foil Adhesive and Gold Leaf

METAL FLAKES ON YUPO

I wanted to share a fun project with you! There is a link below if you want to check out the Demo Video on Youtube! Don't forget to Click Subscribe and Like Button to see more new ones!

Getting to play with my inks are so much fun. I often do a lot of detailed paintings as well, but my enjoyment or creative side (I like to call it my creative brain vs my detailed brain) I find is my favorite way to paint. You can do both!
Who am I kidding, my mother is a terrific detailed artist and while growing up I was always comparing my work to hers and of course since she taught me how to paint I was always looking for her input. Then I realized that wasn't my favorite way to paint. I often got frustrated comparing my work, but I wondered....is it because I wasn't painting for myself? Do I really need to be so perfect? Do I want this to look like a photo? Sometimes yes and sometimes no.

Alcohol inks are a way for me to loosen up and get back to my style.

The best thing about art is the creation. Be it abstract or detailed. Just depends on what direction you are headed that day. Or in my case what mood I'm in. I thank my mother for showing me the HOW.  And now that I've developed my own style (years and years of practice by the way) I can do both and I really enjoy bringing them both together in some cases.

So I'm always looking to try new things and since I've been creating my Zen Disks and using a lot of mixed media I though I would try some gold leaf with my inks on Yupo paper.  This is an adhesive pen by Deco Foil. It's basically a glue "Pen". I imagine you would have a lot of control if you use the Gold leaf sheets, but I wanted to try a more organic approach with the gold leaf and use the Metal Flakes used for gilding.

I was really happy with the final results, once I added the Gold Leaf to the finished painting, and I'm happy to share that it sold almost immediately after posting!

Resin on Liquid Art Panel by Pebeo

I wanted to share with you my newest contemporary piece, unfortunately didn't get to video tape this one, but maybe next time. I'm getting more brave with my resin and slowly working up to a larger canvas, but I decided to try an abstract resin piece on Liquid Art Panel made by Pebeo. I"ll post a referral link down below for you.

What is a Liquid Art Panel? Basically it's a panel that has a lip or a border around it to keep in liquids such as Resin, Liquid Acrylics, or encaustic waxes from pouring out over the edges. This one has a 3/4" wooden boarder that can be painted or stained to match your art. They come in many sizes, this one is an 18x24".

I find them fairly easy to use, but you do need to be careful that your resin or paints (what-ever medium you choose) doesn't over fill the lip or you will have a mess running down the sides. I have used blue painters tape in the past but it was hard to get it over the front lip perfectly, so I found that babysitting it by adding the resin slowly was easier for me than dealing with the tape.

Finished Piece: Youtube Video link

I have used these a few times in the past. Below is a Silvery Moon painting of a tree, it is a smaller panel - 11x14". I would recommend that you start small and work out the kinks before trying a larger panel.

"Silvery Moon" SOLD

The big difference between these two paintings - "Silvery Moon" was painted with Alcohol Inks prior to adding a clear coat of resin, and the larger piece was completed using tinted resin. I do have an Lifetime Beginner Online Resin Course "Zen Disk" (50% Off Sale price Link) on creating an art piece on Aluminum disk, but you always try it on a canvas or one of these liquid panels.

The Finished Piece, is hanging at the Footlights Theatre in Falmouth Maine.  It will be displayed there with a number of other Alcohol Ink, Resin, and Oils.

The show "Water Reflections" will be hanging over the Summer Months.

Here is the (Referral Link)  Pebeo Liquid Art Panel They come in many sizes.

and the Resin Brand I used in the Painting.
