Let's Talk about Your Art Cards and Prints

Watch my Youtube Video
Excited to quickly share this with you before we dig into the card/prints.
I've joined up for this years ART BUNDLE and this week they are giving away a huge prize. The give a way is worth over $4000 in Art learning resources! It runs now until November 13th, so over here to check it out!

When I first began painting it was hard to let go of my original art, you may know exactly what I mean, right? It wasn't quite time to make a number of costly prints because I was just starting out as an artist, and I did not have a place to sell my work in bulk, like in a retail setting, but I wanted to offer them up on Etsy, ebay, and to my friends and family at first.

After some research with Fine Art America , I downloaded a few of my favorites to test for my etsy orders.  It was a successful platform because they could ship, mat, and even frame my prints on metal, canvas, and even acrylic! I had some success with it, but if you are looking to expand and make more money with your art then working with a local printer in bulk is the way to go. Some will even have Digital designers that can work with you.

Another great starting platform that is inexpensive to create your Christmas cards or promotional items, like your business cards, is an online company called Vista Print. Mind you that the colors may not be exact. Heads up, it can be a bit frustrating when placing your order with all the pop ups and options. Make sure to take your time and have your images ready when you sit down to place your order.

When you are ready to invest a bit more in your art and begin selling in larger quantities, check with your local printer company. I use A7 envelopes and Clear plastic sleeves for my cards. If you want to see how I package my prints for the holidays you can check out my Youtube Video here and under the description box is a list of the mat kits that I use.

My Top 5 Craft Fair Tips

It's your first craft fair and you are nervous!
Do I have enough product? How is my set up? Is anyone going to buy from me?

I"ve been doing Craft fairs and Art Shows for many years and I have learned so many things
along the way.

Today I want to share with you my Top 5 Craft Fair Tips.

Have enough Product
However, that doesn't mean that you put it all out at one time.
When I am traveling to set up I like to bring smaller more inexpensive items for a craft show and a few higher prices ones.

Smaller is Better
Small items are easy for you customers to carry around a show. You can store the extra stock easy underneath your table. If you sell one, you can pop another one right up to take it's place.
Many craft shows have a lower price point, so if you are selling higher end items, bring some quick take withs too. This leads to my next tip....

Know your Market
What kind of show are you attending, can you speak with some other artist or vendors prior to the show. Some shows are high end, some others not so much.  It's much harder to sell Fine Art at craft shows. (Not to say it can't be done).

Plan your Set up
Less is more. We talked about smaller is better, well the same goes for your set up. Keep things simple and clean, and make sure your items are priced.

It helps if you set up your table at home before your show, get an idea of how much product fits on your table. Will you have a 6ft or 8ft table at the show? Do you have something to cover it? Will you need electricity? Maybe some sparkle lights will show off your jewelry? Will you need stands for your art? Make sure your customers can reach your products.

Watch My Video HERE: ART SHOW SET UP

Less Price Options
Make it easy to pay by cash. Rounding out your price works well with taxes included. Many customers don't feel  comfortable asking how much the items are, so make sure you price them.
Keep it simple.

BONUS TIP: CLOSE YOUR SALE
When your customer walks up, speak to them. Introduce yourself, let them know about your products and how they are made. There will be a lot of vendors and some shows are very large, so many times
once they leave your table they will not come back (many will say they will and often mean too). Make sure to have some business cards to give-a-way too incase they need to follow up with you and your work.

Hope that gives you a good start. There are lots to learn about holding a show, you will learn what works best for you as you have more shows. Don't get discouraged at first - it will take time like anything else, and not every show will be the same.

Artist Tip: Matting and Packaging Art Prints

How I Mat and Package my Art and Prints

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, are you eating leftover pumpkin pie for breakfast like me? It's Black Friday today and since the Holiday Season is now upon us I thought I would share a quick Artist Tip with you!

I remember when I first started to purchase mats for my work I was having them cut by a professional framer and they were like $12+ dollars each time, and this was for the small 8x10" size.

As a simple living, debt free artist I'm always trying to find deals and came across these lovely little Mat Kits. They come in a standard 8x10" or 11x14" Size that will fit your 5x7" or 8x10" Prints.  In the video below I'll cover where I purchase them and how easy it is to package up your prints to mail.

I also found some Gold Autographed copy stickers that I add to the prints that I've personally signed.

Just Finished This Maine Live Red Lobster Watercolor Painting

Just wanted to share with you all my latest watercolor painting. I have been searching for a great red Lobster photo for 2 years now. I new that Mr. Blue needed a buddy!

Mr. Blue Original is Sold but Prints are available!

While I was hanging out on instragram trying to figure the whole who to follow and all that techy stuff, I ran across a beautiful piece of jewelry Maine jewelry shop called WattsinMaine. While scrolling through her amazing Maine inspired gold necklaces and bracelets I saw this Lobster shot!
They were so kind when I asked for permission to use their photo as my reference!

Original Photo by watts in maine

I started out with a sketch and added Masking fluid to keep the area white.

The claw was next, there are so many color! I used a wet into wet technique to layer them. The first wash was a light orange, red, with a bit of purple in the darker areas. Once that was dry I did the same steps, but chose a darker shade of each.

Steps

I

I decided to piece out the big guy, almost like I would if I were eating him LOL!
Claws first and the tail last.

I find all these color details too over whelming, so I didn't want to punch in the color everywhere at once. This helps to keep my mind at rest....I painted one section at a time as to not get overwhelmed by the whole thing, plus I could see all the variations of color in each small section.

Maine Red Lobster Art

Finally I finished the body and tail and then tweaked the eyes a bit more. I wanted it to seem like he was looking right at you (DON'T EAT ME). My big dilemma was do I leave the background white? I love Mr. Blue's white background...as I was able to Photoshop him into other background colors.

Prints are now available in Acrylic, Canvas or Framed, plus they have shower curtains, pillows, and totes....cool huh! My son wants the shower curtain for the bathroom!

Looking forward to looking for a Calico Lobster next...so if you have any pictures to share with me, please send me a email!!!

I have a number of youtube video's with free previews and if you sign up for my newsletter I offer specials on my website for online watercolor and Alcohol Ink classes. They are beginner classes.

January 2014 "30 Day Painting Challenge Collage"

Put together a collage of the paintings over the past 30 days. Have to say it's been really fun working with the Alcohol Inks on Yupo, I've been really happy with the progress from abstract to detailing a little more.

Once again I really enjoyed the challenge! It's been great having so many folks following along and making comments! Funny, just when I thought I had run out of creative steam you all would send me a sweet note or make a comment that recharged and motivated me, thank you!

A number of clients have been inquiring about prints, so here is my thought, I'll be taking RAW form photo's of all the original 30 Day painting favorites, not every piece will be available for prints, just  ones with the most likes from you Facebook Fans!

My plan will be to put the high quality images up in my Print Gallery as well as having cards made up. So make sure to look and "LIKE" your favorites on the Kellie Lynn Art Facebook Page! XOXO

I'm off to get back to work on my clients Dog portrait! It's a gift, so no progress reports I'm afraid.

It is amazing what one can accomplish when doing it every day!

Grasshopper - Mr. Hopper Finished!

We found a giant yellow and green grasshopper sitting on top of a bucket of water, so I grabbed my camera and started snapping some pictures! I was so afraid he was going to jump at me that most of my photo's were blurry!

It amazed me how this creature had so many colors and small details. I really enjoyed my painting process. It took me off and on over a few months to finish.

http://www.etsy.com/listing/169377383/grasshopper-cricket-bug-watercolor

Mr. Hopper - size 22x15" The background has been left white.
You can view the purchase information HERE.

I worked with Photoshop for the first time! It's a whole new world for my prints! I changed out the background for the cards and prints because the card stock is white and the original painting background is white...but looks gray when copied.

With the help of my wonderful, smart, and talented husband, Larry we managed to cut out the image and place new background colors for him to be printed on. Now the question is what colors do I chose? Had the same problem deciding on my Blue Lobster!

Blue or green would look so cute in a childs room. These are my sons favorite colors so I started with them. But I am going to try red, purple, pinks, orange....could go on forever!

The cool thing is that you can potentially create anything for the client now to match their space.

New Art Print Display Stand for Holiday Fairs!

Look what I got in the mail today from Amazon and it was on sale! It's going to be perfect for my holiday fairs this year. It's really light weight and easy to just pop on the legs!

I've shown it here with my Blue Lobster Print - the Backing board is a 16x20 so you can grasp the size of mats it will hold.

The pocket depth is around 5" in width so it should hold quite a bit of prints. I also found this great little roll of tape that I am using around the edges of my print sleeves to make them look like a package for the holidays! They have a bunch of different ones...so cute and professional looking.

"Getting Ready" Fall before Winter 30 in 30 Day 30

It's here...the last day of the painting challenge (clapping) Phew!

We headed out this weekend to take some pictures of the changing season,  but it hasn't quite hit where we are yet. A few trees here and there, but I know it's coming fast and I'm getting ready to hunker down for the cold winter months. It's always a great time to paint!

This Maine painting is so crisp looking and although the colors are warm fall colors I think you can feel the coolness in the air. Hope you enjoyed my daily paintings and continue to see what I come up with next week, because I promise to put out a painting a week for the rest of the year!

See  a painting you like and the original has been sold, please let me know and I'll be happy to add it as a print!
