End of Fall - Time to Hibernate!

You know how I can always tell that fall is here and that I"m getting ready to hunker down for the long Maine winter hibernation? COOKING - yup, the urge to cook becomes incredible! Funny it's always the hearty warm meals that come to mind. Today I'm making one of my hubby's favorite dishes, shepherds pie, and I have pumpkin cookies for dessert. :)
This painting depicts the end of fall with all the leaves blanketing the ground like that warm hearty meal will be in my belly!

The leaves will soon be seeking their journey to the ground covering it like a warm blanket, and I can't wait for it!

Our family looks forward to the fall every year and it's one of the reasons we love Maine so much.

The leaves here turn the most beautiful shades of orange, red, and yellow. It's a big reason we have so many visitors to our state in the fall. 

Welcome Leaf Peepers!

With each new season, a new feeling can over-come you. The fall is so crisp and cool and the smells of the earth rise up to greet you. There is nothing like a hot cup of coffee with the steam rising up into your face on a cool fall morning, you will usually see me wrapped up in my L.L. Bean blanket sipping away.

Daily Painting #37 - Northern Lights Watercolor

It's Daily Painting #37 for this year! So hard to believe I've accomplished that many so far and it's only February 27th. Let's hope I can stay motivated and continue the trend!

It's a long haul from my 30 day challenge were I completed a  painting a day, but at least I am painting each day! I've been working on a few bigger pieces that you may have seen if you follow me on the Kellie Lynn Art Facebook Page. 

Today's continuing work is of a leaf in the water. When I was first sent the picture from Valerie (thank you), I thought how pretty it was. Valerie sent it to me via email thinking that I may be interested in painting it...and I was like - OH YAY! Now, um....not so much! It's a lot of frig-in details!

That being said, it is a really good challenge for me. My eyes are going a bit crossed, but I think the end result will be beautiful. Stop over to check it out if you have the chance!

"Magical Place" Birch Trees A Favorite Subject

 

  "Magical Place"

22 x 15" Watercolor/Gouache

Birch trees are one of my favorite subjects to paint. I wanted to feel the magic of the sunshine and the joyful happiness that the Maine forest brings to my heart.  It's so peaceful here in the woods and I hope it gives you that same feeling when you look at it.

Change of mood here and I hate to be negative but thought I would share my thoughts with you on this .....On a crappy note, I used a masque called Fineline and I was not happy with this brand at all. It seemed very, VERY hard to remove.

If you can picture it...I was sitting at my studio table for like hours...my poor little fingers were almost raw because I couldn't use my eraser without leaving most of it behind on my paper! My new eraser works great to remove pencil but this one did not take off the masque.

Note to self...buy a new bottle but pick a different brand.

In the end though, I was super happy with the way the painting turned out. It's another larger piece for me. Since the January 30 day challenge that Leslie Saeta put on...I am working my way up from my comfort zone of smaller 5x7 and 8x10 works.

Day 19 Daily Painting Challenge "COVERED BARRENS"

Day 19/30 of our Painting Challenge.
We have many birch trees over by our high school along with beautiful blueberry fields. The color of the barrens are now covered with snow but you can still see a little contrast underneath.

I managed to watch the NFL Playoffs all day and squeeze in a movie "Mama", which was pretty good for a horror film! Needless to say, I didn't get a chance to attempt my Daily Painting Challenge until 10pm last night. Now for me this was a real problem. I am not a night owl by any means. As a matter of fact I think my brain shuts off at 9pm. I was so tired I didn't have a chance to post this last night, so I'm posting today.

Soft colors with a mystical flare is my motto today. Having fun just putting the paint to the paper without thinking of what the plan is. Maybe tomorrow I'll work on a "from photograph" painting, but I can't promise anything. Flying by the seat of my pants is rather fun!

Tried A New Watercolor Look Today - "Listening" Abstract Deer

"Listening"

Always trying something new on the art front, so my choice of colors were exciting today (Opera Rose)! Could it be the headache I had was affecting my color choices? Migraines can do that  right? That's okay.... don't care, cause I had way to much fun painting her.

The deer appears to be "Listening"....it is hunting season here in Maine, Yikes! Could be a hunter just around those birch trees. Gosh, that is really a sad thought. Okay, my painting, and so it is my world. She's deep in the woods it is very serene and no hunters are allowed. There, I feel better.

This one is a  lighter version than the last few watercolors I have done. I like how the water and sunrise reflection came out. This reminds me of camp - is it bad that I can't wait for summer already?
