Autumn painting - fall leaves with watercolor!

Watch the Preview Here

I know that realistic paintings can be intimidating for many watercolorists.
So, I've decided to jump in with the details for you in this new Fall course.
We will bring the whole process together with layers and layers, taking your basic paintings (where many of us tending to stop) to the next level creating a more realistic watercolor.

This class starts out for beginners but in the end we will complete a very realistic Maple leaf.
I walk you through my steps so even if you are a beginner, I know you can do this one.

So we are going into details in this course!

WHAT YOU WILL DISCOVER IN THIS COURSE:
  • Create a simple Color chart with fall colors.
  • Learn to expand on those colors by adding a Glaze to create more shades and depth.
  • Paint a simple wet in wet leaf by dropping in colors.
  • Dive a little deeper with glazes and create some more realistic details.
  • Practice with pen and ink for quick results, perfect for cards or adding some little touches to your paintings.
  • For our final project we will create this realistic Maple Leaf using all these techniques plus a touch of little watercolor pencil for extra fine details!

**IF YOU SIGN UP SOON you will receive this BONUS ALCOHOL INK LEAF LECTURE FOR FREE!

Are you ready for the next step of realism?
If you said yes, then let's jump in.

SOLD Day 6 of 30 in 30 - Fall Field

Waking up to a beautifully crisp apple picking kind of day, with a sun filled view gazing over the fields.

It's Day 6 of the 30 in 30 challenge - the first week is almost complete. It's been great painting daily , it certainly helps gain some inventory for the holiday season! This painting was inspired by the cool morning today. It's now September and I know that fall is coming soon. It's one of my favorite times of the year. Our family will soon be making our way to the local apple orchard for the fresh apple and pumpkin doughnuts.

End of Fall - Time to Hibernate!

$50.00

You know how I can always tell that fall is here and that I"m getting ready to hunker down for the long Maine winter hibernation? COOKING - yup, the urge to cook becomes incredible! Funny it's always the hearty warm meals that come to mind. Today I'm making one of my hubby's favorite dishes, shepherds pie, and I have pumpkin cookies for dessert. :)
This painting depicts the end of fall with all the leaves blanketing the ground like that warm hearty meal will be in my belly!

Hope you get to get out and enjoy what's left of the beautiful fall foliage and enjoy your fabulous Sunday!

Fall Shadow - Autumn Maine Leaf

"FALL SHADOW"
Autumn Maine Leaf
6x6 Orignal Watercolor
Un-Matted
$59.00

Happy Fall everyone! Opted to paint a 6x6" just to give myself a bit more room for the leaf. Only problem is that I do not stock mats for this size. Hmmm, what to do?

Decided to ask a question on my Kellie Lynn Art facebook page to see if clients and artists prefer their art to be:

1. Un-matted
2. Matted Only
3. Matted and Framed

Most folks felt the work definitely needed to at least come with a Mat, but when it came to frames it was a very individual decision. Frames are such a personalized piece of the puzzle not to mention the cost of a frame can be all over the board.

Some people said the total price could deter them from making a purchase while others said if it didn't come with a frame they may never get around to hanging the art up. Most said that the cost would affect their decision.

I usually sell my work Matted and sometimes offer the frame as an option on my smaller 5x7 pieces online. They are a very basic 1" black or white 8x10 wooden frame.

It does become more expensive to ship with frames and then glass is of course breakable so more materials are needed to secure during shipment. But I have to agree it certainly finishes the look with one.

For my gallery pieces and exhibits, they are always matted and framed!

So what did I learn from this - people like options. My thought is to continue to offer a simple cost effective frame, so that the work is complete. It's always and option to re-frame to fit your own taste, don't you think?

My work in progress....my model started to shrivel before my eyes.

"Getting Ready" Fall before Winter 30 in 30 Day 30

It's here...the last day of the painting challenge (clapping) Phew!

We headed out this weekend to take some pictures of the changing season,  but it hasn't quite hit where we are yet. A few trees here and there, but I know it's coming fast and I'm getting ready to hunker down for the cold winter months. It's always a great time to paint!

This Maine painting is so crisp looking and although the colors are warm fall colors I think you can feel the coolness in the air. Hope you enjoyed my daily paintings and continue to see what I come up with next week, because I promise to put out a painting a week for the rest of the year!

See  a painting you like and the original has been sold, please let me know and I'll be happy to add it as a print!

"A IS FOR APPLE" Ricker Hill Orchard 30 in 30 Day 29

We went out on a road trip this morning to take some pictures of the fall leaves but ended up at Ricker Hill Orchards! So happy we did...because while I was out taking pictures of the goats and pumpkins Larry was inside the bake shop picking up fresh apple doughnuts and a pumpkin chocolate chip whoopie pie! And OH MY GOD - was it GOOD!

After we got home it was time for the football game - so at 4pm I threw in my laundry (first wash of the week - YIKES) and started looking through my pictures.

Have some amazing shots, but figured they are really too difficult in my short amount of paint time today (the Patriots are on at 8:30) so I simplified down to just one apple. It' rather amazing how simple an apple looks to paint isn't it?....but they are NOT!

"Traveling"

I'm ahead - Day 25 "Traveling" - I found these little leaves floating in the Brook behind our home. They had just fallen from the tree above and I captured the moment before they floated away. I love the movement in this one....

"Dancing Leaves" Fall Watercolor Painting 30 in 30 Day 24

"DANCING LEAVES"

Framed 8x10
Had fun with a little more abstract style today.

I think it's a good thing the 30 day challenge is winding down, I'm running out of steam!

Just got back from a brisk walk outside with little puppy, Primm and thought she was going to blow away. The wind is whipping those little leaves all over the place out there. Looks like Fall is officially here as of 4:44 yesterday.

This is a colorful little 5x7 fall watercolor painting.

On another note:  I'm excited to have an artist wine and cheese reception this Friday night from 4-5pm at the Highlands in Topsham and then the Arts 10x10 event from 5-8 the same evening!

"Hanging Out" 30 in 30 Day 16

Missing my birds at my new house, although we put up a bird feeder,  my guess is that it's too low for the birds to feel comfortable feeding at, so I haven't had any (sad face).  Note to self....must put a tall post on my list for this weeks buys.

Started this painting a while ago but wasn't happy with it, so it got tossed to the side.  Decided to pull it back out and work on the background  some more (it was very dull). I punched up the color a bit with some fall leaves, there...much better.
"HANGING OUT"

Think I have the Monday blahs, maybe it's because it's raining outside again....guess I'll have to put on my big girl pants and get painting,  maybe I can get a few done ahead of time for this week. Finding the painting is the easy part of this challenge...it's the picture taking, blogging, posting on facebook, twitter, etsy, society6, ebay, ...all the heavy work! :)

My first cup of java is complete after finishing the blog post....so Monday blahs are already lifting! Make it a great day!

"Friendly Harvest" 30 in 30 Day 14

Had so much fun yesterday painting with my fellow artist and friend Arica Pillsbury!
It so much fun to sit, chat, and paint with another wonderful artist.

Since the weather didn't go as we had planned, Arica brilliantly came up with a plan B to paint at Longfellows Greenhouse in Manchester Maine. They were super nice when she asked if they minded if we set up outside under the awning to paint plein air.

Our Models - very pretty aren't they!

Here is my finished piece above and below is Arica's!

Please visit Arica's Art Blog HERE

Find it amazing how we can both paint the same subjects with such different styles.  Love it!
Thanks for a wonderful day and all the inspiration my friend!

"Feeling Fall" 30 in 30 Day 12

"FEELING FALL"

Price:  $60
5x7 Original
 (8x10 Mat included)

It was freezing in my house this morning and we refuse to turn on our heat in September!
Okay, freezing may be a little over-board, it was 68 degrees but I'm a  big old Cold Wimp. Not sure how I live in Maine during the winters, I mean...REALLY? ..but I love it!

Since my fingers were cold I decided not to do details again today but to be free and fall-ish!
A take off from the "Autumn Lake", but without the Lake :)

Leaf peeping in Maine will soon be here!

"Fall Blanket" - 30 in 30 Day 7 - By Kellie Chasse

"FALL BLANKET"

Click HERE to Bid On Auction

The leaves will soon be seeking their journey to the ground covering it like a warm blanket, and I can't wait for it!

Our family looks forward to the fall every year and it's one of the reasons we love Maine so much.

The leaves here turn the most beautiful shades of orange, red, and yellow. It's a big reason we have so many visitors to our state in the fall.

Welcome Leaf Peepers!

With each new season, a new feeling can over-come you. The fall is so crisp and cool and the smells of the earth rise up to greet you. There is nothing like a hot cup of coffee with the steam rising up into your face on a cool fall morning, you will usually see me wrapped up in my L.L. Bean blanket sipping away.

"Autumn Lake" Day 4 (30 Paintings in 30 Days)

"AUTUMN LAKE"

Happy Anniversary to my hubby - it's been 15 years today for us!

To celebrate we are off to the camp to close up today! It's so sad to have the season come to an end, but this summer has been so busy for us with the move and all...we haven't had much time there :(

We will enjoy our last hoo-rah and in honor of it... today's painting is an ode to Fall.

I see the leave on one of our backyard trees has started to turn already.
Fall is my favorite time of year though, so I"m looking forward to it.

The smell of fresh crisp Maine air, leaf peeping, apples and pumpkins.

Available in Prints HERE.

Painting Number 38 "Autumn Reflections"

   "Autumn Reflections"

  11 x 14 Watercolor/Gouache on 140 Arches Cold Press

Just want you all to know that I was so scared to show you all the original photograph! As I'm creating the post (such a typical thing I hope) I'm analyzing the painting more and seeing a few more things I could change. But I am going to leave it alone, I promise!

I wanted to step out side of my comfort zone with a few larger paintings this year and Autumn reflections was a challenge for me. Not only is the size larger than my norm, but there is a lot going on in this one. When I first looked at the photograph I had no idea how difficult it would be to achieve the look I wanted. Took me longer than what was anticipated, but very happy with the outcome.

My cousin Valerie sent me the original photograph via Facebook. She thought it might be  something that I would enjoy painting - Thanks Valerie....you were so right! I love it when folks send me interesting pictures!

 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH BY CANDI

So here's the original photograph taken by Candi at the Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, MA. She certainly has an eye! This is just so cool! Love the warm reflections in the water. You can see the leaves drifting along..no care in the world.

I'm off to drift along and enjoy my family time.......enjoy your weekend everyone!
