After a restful 4th of July week up to Camp I'm ready to create. I found some lovely Birch Bark during a walk in the Maine woods. The Bark comes from a fallen tree, that I found laying on the ground, so I picked it up in hopes of using it in a piece of Art. I only have a limited quantity of these, they have been selling fast!

I"ve been busy at the Portland Jetport this summer, looks like it's going to be a great summer.  Hope you are enjoying yours too!

Day 8 Resting Mallard Duck

Day 8 of 30 paintings in 30 Days
Rolling along on Day 8 of the second 30 day challenge in 2 months...and it has really become second nature for me to paint daily. The only problem for me is coming up with things to paint, so the PMP (paint my photo) site has been great for me. I found this beautiful Mallard Duck by Nicola B as my reference photo.
Really trying to work on my wet on wet technique since I tend to want to paint every feather I see!
  "Resting Mallard Duck"
$100

5x7" Watercolor on 140 Cold Press
Special thanks to Nicola B for the Reference photo.

30 in 30 collage

Here are a few of my 30 in 30 painting over the past 30 days, and as much as I enjoyed the challenge I'm looking forward to a breather. I may go back to working on some larger painting now that my 22x30 sheets of 300 cold press arrived!

I always love this experience and I thank Leslie Seata for putting the challenge together. I think she had over 400 artists that participated this time around. This is my second time this year doing the 30 day challenge and I'm already looking forward to another one maybe in January of 2014?

Thanks to all of you that have followed my journey - and I really hope you enjoyed seeing all my work. All of the painting of course are for sale in my Esty Shop.

Please feel free to follow my blog and find me on facebook - I love to stay in touch with my collectors and artist friends!

A sweet little sunflower in a mason jar leaning as far as it can to capture the suns rays.  Sunflowers and Autumn just go together don't you think?

Winter Blue Jay - Bird

I know we are heading into spring now...but I just wanted to share the end of winter with this cute little fellow "The Winter Blue Jay".

He is now enjoying the fresh green grass and maybe working on the new spring nest.  Winter is gone for now...but will be back soon enough.

Hope you all have a terrific day!

SOLD Honey Bee - Changing the way we eat

Honey Bees - Work in progress. Inspired by a few articles I recently read. Scary stuff! http://blogs.reuters.com/great-debate/2012/04/09/mystery-of-the-disappearing-bees-solved/

Our family is currently changing the way we eat. Really trying to focus on organic food choices, very little processed food, and drinking more water. It's been a learning experience for us thus far. Found that reading the labels on our food that soy, corn, sugar, wheat, peanuts, and dairy is actually in just about everything we consume. We are trying to buy from local farmers and started asking questions like who, what, where, when, and how our food is grown.

I'm learning how to cook differently and the food is so good! We are using more spices and herbs...things I'd never tried. Eating more vegetables, fruits and nuts. Replaced Milk with Coconut Milk and changed from white rice to brown rice and quinoa.Yeah, I hadn't heard of quinoa before this.

I know...it really sounds like a lot of work, but really after the first few weeks it became a lot easier. Just about everything you try your hand at is difficult at first. As you learn you grow and it becomes second nature. Not only do we feel better but our family collectively has lost a total of  44 pounds since March 1st!

Update: Here is the final product

Tulip Whispers - Choosing Mat Colors

Black Matting

White Matting

I have the hardest time choosing Mat colors and frames for my work. Guess it's such a personal thing. I know that a lot of artist will let the client pick..good idea huh! I decided to post both for you to look at.

Funny when I posted my newest painting of  "Tulip Whispers" on Daily Paint Works I noticed a number of Tulip painting on there for today....guess we artists are in a similar SPRING mood today.

Right Brain - Use your imagination in this fun watercolor style!

$60.00 + Shipping

Today's Daily Painting #44 (Year To Date 2013) was fun and unexpected. I was excited to video tape the progress and hope to put the video up once I get the editing done on it.

My first step was to use clear plastic wrap to create a fun and interesting design and then go from there.

It's never been a challenge for my brain to see something in the color patterns. You have to use your imagination or your right brain for this exercise. Look for a pattern in the colors. It may be difficult at first, but with practice you can get the hang of it.

I remember as a kid sitting down just starring at the wood panels on a wall.....if you looked at the knots in the pine you could see all kinds of interesting little things....eyes...creatures, fairy's....my imagination would go wild.

So try it out and use your favorite colors and see what you get. If you can't see anything...show a little one...they are really good at spotting things! Then start to paint them in.

"Sweetness" - SOLD

 "Sweetness"

SOLD

  5x7 Watercolor/Gouache on 140 Arches Cold Press

Daily Painting #43

Ok, I'm totally digging this loose painting style! This cute little rabbit is hiding in amongst the wildflowers and sweet smelling grasses. He doesn't think we can see him...but we can.

Good news...the first day of spring was yesterday although I'm not sure Mother Nature was in tune with that, she dumped another 8-10"'s of snow on us!

Here's to spring  and cute and fuzzy bunnies!

"THE CARDINAL" - SOLD

  "THE CARDINAL"

SOLD

  5x7 Watercolor/Gouache on 140 Arches Cold Press

Daily Painting #42

Always playing with paints and styles even after 20 years...guess it never gets old with me. This is a looser style painting. I lightly sketched in the Cardinal and used a very wet on wet technique on the outside of the bird first.

This kind of painting is very fun for me....love freedom and lack of restriction it gives me. I'm free to explore and play...just like a kid.

Once the background was done I started some detailing on the bird. Here comes my problem...I like details and find it hard to just leave it alone...think you may of heard me say this before if you have been reading my blog for a little while now.

A big thank you to a fellow artist Karl from Watercolor Journal. We chatted a bit on facebook yesterday and I just love his style.....he encouraged me to give it a try!

Happy Painting

Maine Lupines - New PartyPainter Hostess Scene

I just posted these three Maine Lupine watercolor paintings as new scene choices for my business called PartyPainter!

Although I 'm an artist it still amazes me how much the differences in color really make! I was thinking these flowers would be beautiful all hanging framed above my bed.

Don't forget to check out our other scene choices on the PartyPainter Facebook Fan Page - we would love more fans!

"Hello World" - Spring Chick Hatching - Watercolor

   "HELLO WORLD"

  5x7 Watercolor/Gouache on 140 Arches Cold Press

Daily Painting #41

Since Easter is just around the corner I was ready to paint something springy!

Though you all may be interested as to how I picked the name....
My son  Camden was working with his dad on the computer last night and Larry was teaching him how to code in HTML. He had downloaded the program - Kids RUBY for him to play with. By the way, what a great little program for kids, I would highly recommend it!

So sweet to watch them....Larry was being all nostalgic...reminiscing about his first programming experience as a child and telling Camden all about it.  Telling my age here, but we went to school in the 80's ...do you all remember "Hello World"?

I thought about naming it The Escape, or Peeking Out, but last nights cute little son and dad time took me back to HELLO WORLD! :)

Happy Painting
