January 2014 "30 Day Painting Challenge Collage"

Put together a collage of the paintings over the past 30 days. Have to say it's been really fun working with the Alcohol Inks on Yupo, I've been really happy with the progress from abstract to detailing a little more.

Once again I really enjoyed the challenge! It's been great having so many folks following along and making comments! Funny, just when I thought I had run out of creative steam you all would send me a sweet note or make a comment that recharged and motivated me, thank you!

A number of clients have been inquiring about prints, so here is my thought, I'll be taking RAW form photo's of all the original 30 Day painting favorites, not every piece will be available for prints, just  ones with the most likes from you Facebook Fans!

My plan will be to put the high quality images up in my Print Gallery as well as having cards made up. So make sure to look and "LIKE" your favorites on the Kellie Lynn Art Facebook Page! XOXO

I'm off to get back to work on my clients Dog portrait! It's a gift, so no progress reports I'm afraid.

It is amazing what one can accomplish when doing it every day!

Day 29 - Floating Man Of War Jellyfish - Faith

"FLOATING"

Day 29 "Floating" Acceptance and Faith.

Maintaining balance in all areas of your life is so important...we have lots of emotions that hit us everyday. The jellyfish symbolizes being sensitive and understanding the value of floating along or going with your emotions rather than being too stiff  with what life sends your way and having faith to move along.

The jellyfish has only the current to rely on to carry it along and must have the movement of the ocean to survive. We all need movement and change, this one really symbolized my new work with inks.

Special $35 -https://www.etsy.com/listing/177393924/jellyfish-man-of-war-floating-faith

Alcohol Ink On Yupo
9x12" Original

I spent some time with a dear friend the other day who was just in the hospital for over 9 days! She still isn't feeling all that well but I brought my inks over with me just in case she wanted to try them.

It turned out to be wonderful therapy for her. We turned on some classical music and we let the paint flow. Painting can be such an escape. For just a little while she felt better and didn't think about anything but the flowing paint. Unfortunately I forgot my camera or I would have taken a picture of her lovely piece.

5x7" Original
Alcohol Ink on Yupo

Since Valentines day is fast approaching I though a romantic painting would be appropriate for today. This romantic little couple is having a kiss in the rain under the umbrella...it's quite abstract, but you can still make them out? My husband asked if it was a jelly fish LOL.

Day 26 "Serenity" Monarch Butterfly

"Serenity"

Managed a very peaceful and calming Monarch butterfly painting yesterday.  It's always a slight challenge for me to paint on the weekends because I love to spend it with my family and friends.

Guess the spring fever has hit me early, ready for the flowers...maybe I should head back to Florida just a little longer? This has been a really cold winter here in Maine, as I type it's only a whopping 11 degrees out there. The wind is blowing and howling, can't imagine the temp with the windchill factor!

Since we moved into our 900 sq ft tiny home we've decided we need to get a wood stove, our oil bill is horrendous, can't imagine how folks with bigger homes do it!

Stay Warm! :)

Day 25 of 30 in 30 Challenge "Easy to Spot" Cardinal

Guess what....using some of my new ink colors today, very exciting! This Cardinal was painted with Raisin, purple twilight, and Meadow Green. Funny, when I first started with the inks I really had a hard time manipulating them but after some practice and "sticking with it", it's become very rewarding.

"RENEWAL"

SOLD
Prints are available HERE

I tried for a more realistic looking Peacock this time! I really like how this one turned out. Somehow I  managed to keep my style a little loose but with some details in the face.

This time I used a pencil instead of an ink pen to draw  out the basic shape of the peacock bird. I learned on my last piece that the pen ink will run when the alcohol touches it....should have seen that one coming!

You may also be wondering what all the paint dots are underneath the bird. I made myself a ink chart. This is a great way to help determine your color choices! I can see them laid out in front of me before I drop them onto the Yupo paper.

The colors are not exactly as they are on the labels. Well, they may have started that way but inks are messy and before long most of the labels are covered with ink making it hard to tell! Before I would pick up any old blue and go with it!

I started out by painting the background first, then added the layers of color over once it dried.

I'm still planning on doing a video demo in February....so if you have never tried AI you can see a few tips that I've learned from trial and error.

Stop on over to my Kellie Lynn Art Facebook Fan Page - would love to have you as a FAN!

Who loves you more than Mom? She has deep roots and a love that blooms!

Just got back from Florida where I got to enjoy some quality time with my wonderfully talented artist Mom, and was able to show her how to paint a tree using the alcohol inks.

We didn't paint all the time....there was a lot of gorgeous sunrises, red moons (incredible) and we were right on Floridian Beach! The crashing waves lulled me to sleep every night.

I miss my Mom and Dad already!

BUT....When I got home I was really excited to see my package from JoAnns! 66 new gorgeous colors of inks!
They are currently on sale for 50% off FYI! :)

Day 22 - "GO BOLD" Alcohol Ink

I'm back from my Florida vacation today!
I worked really hard to get all my 30 day paintings done and blogged before I left so I could just relax on the beach!

This one was really fun to paint with Alcohol inks!
I saw a video online when I was on my Ipad showing a peacock.... now I can't find the link (really need to write this stuff down)! If anyone knows which one I'm talking about, please let me know and I'll add the link here. :)

This one isn't for sale....just a demo!

Day 21 "Dragonflies" Sold

"Dreamy"
6x6
Alcohol Ink Painting

I love painting dragonfly's...the inks gave it such a magical effect I think!
Used a bit of black ink pen on the wings. Love this blog post I found on these amazing creatures.

The opening of one’s eyes
"The eyes of the dragonfly are one of the most amazing and awe inspiring sights. Given almost 80% of the insect’s brain power is dedicated to its sight and the fact that it can see in all 360 degrees around it, it symbolizes the uninhibited vision of the mind and the ability to see beyond the limitations of the human self. It also in a manner of speaking symbolizes a man/woman’s rising from materialism to be able to see beyond the mundane into the vastness that is really our Universe, and our own minds."

Day 9 of 30 in 30 Painting Challenge "FIREWATER"

Facebook info: If you are in your personal account you can tag yourself on a painting and it will then show up on your personal page as well...without having to share. Therefore it's so much easier to follow all the comments, likes and shares! Sometimes it can become confusing if not!

The second thing I learned about facebook today was that it's OK to LIKE your own stuff! Here's a great post I read today by Rick explaining "WHY YOU SHOULD LIKE YOUR OWN FACEBOOK PAGE".

Funny, whenever my hubby liked any of my paintings online (he's an admin on my art page) it would show up as me liking my own. I was all worried that people would think I was narcissistic! I nagged him a bit and would always click the unlike button when I noticed it.

But after reading the article....I'm thinking My Marketing Man is Brilliant! :) No more nagging...sorry honey!

Day 8 of 30 paintings in 30 Days
Rolling along on Day 8 of the second 30 day challenge in 2 months...and it has really become second nature for me to paint daily. The only problem for me is coming up with things to paint, so the PMP (paint my photo) site has been great for me. I found this beautiful Mallard Duck by Nicola B as my reference photo.
Really trying to work on my wet on wet technique since I tend to want to paint every feather I see!

SOLD! ACEO - Artist Trading Card or ATC "Red Cardinal"

Day 6 - "PROUD"

Thought I would change this up at bit! I've decided that my "STYLE" is Change. I am always switching things up with my art. I really enjoy the detailed paintings, but I find my self getting burnt out or creatively stressed after completing a major detailed painting. It's not a bad thing really, but I just find that I need to work on something less "EXACT". So the ink paintings have been a great change of pace for me.

Six days in I was ready to detail again...but didn't want to commit to a big detailed painting. I've been meaning to do some ACEO's so it' the perfect time during this 30 day challenge! These are small 2.5 x 3.5 Trading card size.

ACEO's are miniature pieces of art!  All of them are the exact size and can be traded or swapped.  They can be any media, but need to fit a standard trading card sleeve.

I found a package of 10 cold press watercolor paper by Strathmore at my local Craft Mania store.
Getting ready to have more fun with these! Going to try to keep them simple, we'll see how I do.....keeping things to a minimum.

Latest and Coolest Medium For Artists!

30 in 30 Day Challenge Day 5
"Forest Through The Trees"
I received a great question yesterday on my facebook page about what medium I'm using for my latest creations, so I thought I would address it here as well. I've talked about it when I first started using them in October, but silly me....that was a long time ago and if you just started reading my blog (Thank You by the way!) you probably missed it.
So here's the skinny...I'm using one of the latest and coolest mediums for artists, (so I hear) although I didn't know it at the time.  I came across it via trial and error. I had seen other artists use watercolors in this way and noticed the colors being blown over papers with straws, but when I did it...the colors just weren't intense enough for what I was looking for.
Off to the art supply store I went and picked up a bunch of different products trying them all out. Cost me a fortune...so let me tell you what worked best before you spend all your money!
Here's the secret....Alcohol Ink's (which are used for stamping on glass or tiles). I tried them with many different papers, but the only kind I could find that would not just BLOT and Dry on the paper was YUPO paper. It's a synthetic glossy paper and I could only find it from online stores like Dick Blick.
It's really fun and has intense color! I use a pouring method, so it's very hard to control the inks and honestly....you really have no idea what the outcome will be, but I think that's what I enjoy most about it. Shapes and idea's start to emerge...similar to using clear plastic wrap in watercolors. This is were true creativity is allowed to emerge!
You can use your brush to manipulate the ink's somewhat, but not enough to really PAINT (where you want it to go), because it continues to move while it dries.
My plan is to work on a video to show you all how I do it.....but that may have to be after the 30 in 30 challenge! So please stay posted and thanks again for stopping by! Feel free to head over on the right side of the blog to follow my work!

Wonder - Gentle Caterpillar

Day 4 "Wonder"

Caterpillars usually signify a need for gentle and quiet approaches to our activities and endeavors. They can also signal a surprise or gift about to be offered to us, or that can be beneficial to our future if we take advantage of it. Caterpillars herald a time of good news, new birth, and creative inspiration, signaling a time to get ready to start a new project or initiate a new endeavors. -Andrews, T. (1999)

"VISIT" - Spirit World Ink Painting

Day 2 "Visit"
I'm not sure if I'm channeling into the spirit world, but this is the second painting that looks like spiritual visitors! It has a very calming effect on me....a comfort. The lines across the middle remind me of a hospital monitor or radio waves.
I did some research on the color green aura and here's what I found....GREEN AURA COLOR MEANING: Relates to heart and lungs. It is a very comfortable, healthy color of nature. When seen in the aura this usually represents growth and balance, and most of all, something that leads to change. Love of people, animals, nature; teacher; social

Bright emerald green: A healer, also a love-centered person.
